3 weeks ago we had a dryer fire start in the basement of our home. Fortunately I was home at the time and no humans or animals were injured as I was able to get everyone out and call the fire department before the fire became fully engaged inside the house.  After the fire was out a tour of the house showed where there is fire there is SMOKE and a LOT of it.

A week of touring with the insurance adjuster, cleaning people and contractors it became clear that we were not going to be living in our home anytime soon.  This meant that we needed to find someplace to live that would let us have 7 large dogs since I breed and show Belgian Tervuren and Belgian Laekenois, ( see photo below).  No one wanted to rent a home to us on a month to month plus having 7 large dogs and I did not want to be far away from my four horses either.

We have been the proud owners of travel trailers in the past and most currently an 8.5' truck camper and while I love the camper for horse shows and small dog show adventures and some of our family camping adventures, living in such a compact space for up to 5 months was not sounding very appealing.  What to do?  What to do?

For the past 2 years we have been contemplating purchasing a moderate sized motorhome and had decided that a Class C was most practical for our needs.  A friend of mine had purchased an CruiseAmerica 23A in 2010 and if you take the corner mattress out of the bed area there is a large safe area for securing dog crates when traveling to dog shows or going camping with the crew.  The over head bed works well for one or two adults and the dinette area doubles and a work space on the computer as well as dining area.  Add a footstool to the lounge chair and voila, a comfortable place to watch TV, read etc.   My other half is not one to spend money quickly and we had still been contemplating our best options but were pretty convinced we wanted a 23A model like our friend has purchased.

Fast forward to the fire and a full two weeks in a motel room with two dogs and the other 5 dogs stuck in a boarding kennel.   We had to do something and fast SO we started looking for the right 23A model in the right price range for our needs .  I am HAPPY to report that as of Thursday, March 15., we will be on our way to Salt Lake City, UT to pick up the NEW TO US 23A we have put a deposit on and arranged financing for through CruiseAmerica all via email and telephone.  To finally be moving back to our property after what will be a month of living in a motel AND after our home is finally repaired in full we will have our motorhome for many years to come is the best of all worlds under the circumstances.

We are so looking forward to many great adventures in our 'former' CruiseAmerica Rental unit and I'm excited to be doing a bit of interior customization and decorating over the weeks to come.
