Your favorite rv park or campround in the West

My wife and dog are planning a very extended trip (6 months to a year) out west and in Canada. So far though, I am dissapointed by the over crowded, small lot size rv parks I have found on-line. I am looking for suggestions on your favorite places to stay that are natural, open and beautiful settings. I look forward to your help.
Thanks

Hi Brian. The Camp Verde campground is called "Distant Drums RV Resort". It is indeed a very nice campground located close to I-17 which may be a small disadvantage with regard to some noise coming from the Interstate (however we did not have any problems with that). We only stayed there for one night. It is very close to Montezuma Castle and not far from Sedona. The bathroom facilities of Distant Drums are really fantastic, so we did not use the RV in this respect. It is all very clean and nice. The staff is very friendly and willing to help you.

We made a 4-weeks trip through California, Nevada, Utah & Arizona. In Arizona we only stayed in Grand Canyon Mather Ground, Camp Verde and another campground in Apache Junction (KOA). Except for some RV Parks in or close to major cities, we did not encounter any problems with lot sizes. But maybe this is because we come from Holland in Europe and are used to the campsite sizes in Spain, Italy & South of France. In this respect the campsites in the US are huge !. I assume that you intend to stay much longer at one campground looking at your schedule (wow, one year.....sounds good) meaning that you most probably are looking for other types of campgrounds than we stayed at. In our case 3 nights has been our maximum stay. We used a lot of KOA campgrounds because they all have at least a pool (for our 2 boys) and their facilities are in most cases OK. I you are interested I can give you more details. At this moment in time our friends (from Holland too) are travelling with a RV of Cruise America and they are visiting some other campgrounds. Maybe they can give you any advise as well when they are back, Just let me know whether you are interested.

Hope you'll have a wonderful trip.

Kind Regards,
Michael Mallens
